NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's soccer scored two unanswered goals in the second half to defeat visiting Mitchell College, 2-1, in non-league action at Reynolds Field on Thursday night.
Salve Regina's won its sixth straight game and improved to 8-3-3 overall. Jared Warren tied the game with his team-leading seventh goal in the 69th minute and later assisted on the game-winner. Casey Kelly scored his first collegiate goal to put the Seahawks on top for good in the 70th minute.
Mitchell netted the only goal of the first half as Zavier Veliz put the Mariners on top 1-0 in the 37th minute. He scored on a header off a throw-in from TJ Condon to notch his first goal of the season.
The Seahawks held a 23-6 advantage in total shots, although the Mariners put more shots on frame (6-5). Seth Strader made three saves in goal for the Mariners. Evan Coose and Michael Payan split time in net for Salve Regina and combined for five saves.
Mitchell (3-7-1 overall) returns to NECC action on Saturday, October 14 when it hosts Becker College at 2:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the Mariners will honor their seniors in a special ceremony.
