BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team exploded for a season-high four goals in a shutout victory over Southern Vermont College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference action at Everett Field.
Sophomore Andrew Nigro scored the first two goals of the contest and senior Jordan Derosier added the final pair as the Mariners improved to 6-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play. Derosier also recorded an assist to finish with a career-high five points on the day.
Nigro gave the Mariners an early cushion with flick over the SVC keeper in the 15th minute. Senior Ryan Goodwin set up the play with a pass to Nigro, who then put his shot on net from the left side of the box.
Mitchell led 1-0 at halftime but extended the margin in the 68th minute when Derosier found Nigro for his second tally of the day. Derosier was just getting started, however, as he added scores in the 76th and 80th minutes to seal the win. His first marker came off a feed from senior Nicholas Donahue and was deposited into the left-side netting, and his second came off a rebound on a shot by freshman Yianni Longinidis.
Senior goalkeeper Ramazan Sinani recorded three saves to cement his fourth shutout of the season and 10th of his career. Mitchell held a commanding 39-9 edge in shots and put 13 on goal.
Mitchell has won its last two games and will look to extend the streak against Wheelock College at home on Monday, October 13 at 3:30 p.m.
