CHICOPEE, Mass. -- Elms College jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 5-1 victory over Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference men's soccer showdown.
Elms' Connor O'Grady finished with two goals and two assists in the win. Mitchell's lone goal came courtesy of senior Taylor Surette, his first marker of the season.
Elms scored three goals in the opening 18 minutes to seize control from the start. O'Grady scored in the third minute to put the Blazers on top, and he added his second tally just eight minutes later. Lorenzo Rolocut added the final goal of the half in the 18th minute to give Elms a 3-0 lead heading into intermission.
Bobby Zaino scored off a feed from O'Grady to start the second-half scoring. The Mariners cut into the deficit in the 59th minute when Surette gathered a loose ball and unleashed a shot into the back of the net. However, Elms kept Mitchell off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest and added the game's final score in the 88th minute off the foot of Thomas Rivers.
Elms held a 21-10 advantage in shots. Mitchell goalkeeper Ramazan Sinani finished with four saves while his counterpart recorded five.
Mitchell (4-6-1 overall, 1-1-0 NECC) will next Eastern Nazarene College on Wednesday, October 8 at 3:30 p.m.
