NORTHFIELD, VT – Three different players scored for the Norwich University women's soccer team, as the Cadets defeated Mitchell College 3-0 on Friday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash at Sabine Field.
The Cadets jumped out to an early lead as an indirect kick led to a goal by Kat Probst in the 11th minute of the match. The Mariners held strong on defense and the score remained 1-0 through halftime, but six minutes into the second stanza Lindsey Duggan hammered a ball to the middle of the net from 19 yards out to double the Cadet lead. Harleigh Cornellier tacked on her first goal of the fall 13 minutes later to cap the scoring, improving Norwich's record in conference play to 5-1-2. Duggan and Probst were also credit with assists for Norwich.
Norwich outshot the Mariners 22-1, with the lone Mitchell shot attempt coming off the foot of senior Francesca Zamarripa (Lithia, Fla.). Senior goalkeeper Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME) tallied eight saves in the loss, while Michaela Dubey of the Cadets earned the win without having to record a save.
