Softball Splits at Saint Joseph
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Mitchell College softball team split a
doubleheader at Saint Joseph College on Wednesday afternoon.
Saint Joseph took advantage of seven Mitchell errors to win 11-7 in
the first game, snapping a six-game winning streak for the
visitors. However, the Mariners bounced back to win the late
game, 10-1, in five innings. Saint Joseph is 16-11 overall and
Mitchell moved to 8-6 overall.
Saint Joseph rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the first game with
three runs of its own in the bottom of the second and third innings
to lead 6-3. Ashley Ryan had a two-run single in each rally. Also
for Saint Joseph, Jackie Peck and Emily Hummel each finished
2-for-3 with two RBI, with Hummel scoring three runs and Peck two.
For Mitchell, sophomore Nikki
Hoxie went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In the nightcap, Mitchell sophomore pitcher Marissa
Thomas allowed two singles, no walks and struck out four in
five innings to earn the victory. Senior Sara
Krolikowski went 4-for-4 with three RBI and freshman Meghan
Burke went 3-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Mariners' 15-hit
attack.
Mitchell returns to conference play over the weekend against
Newbury College. The doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, April
10 at noon.
