Softball Takes Two at Wheelock
BOSTON – The Mitchell College softball team took both games
of a doubleheader at Wheelock College on Sunday afternoon, winning
by final scores of 6-5 and 11-2.
Mitchell improved to 20-10 overall and 12-2 in the NECC. The
Mariners will be no worse than a third seed in the upcoming NECC
Championship and can still earn one of the top two seeds and a bye
for the first round. Wheelock dropped to 1-21 overall and 1-9 in
conference play.
Game 1 – Mitchell 6, Wheelock 5
A two-run homer by senior Sara
Krolikowski in the top of the seventh inning put Mitchell on
top 6-5 and was the difference in the ballgame. Sophomore Stacey
Suplicki led off the frame with a single before Krolikowski
went deep for her team-leading fourth home run of the season.
Sophomore Brittany Zaccaria also had two hits and drove in
a pair of runs to help the Mariners. Classmate Kristina Torres gave up five runs (four earned) on
eight hits over 7.0 innings. She struck out nine batters and walked
three while improving to 9-6 on the season.
Game 2 – Mitchell 11, Wheelock 2
Krolikowski went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the nightcap while
freshman Meghan Burke added two hits and knocked in three runs.
Suplicki, junior Jen Bordonaro and sophomore Shannen Pelletier also had multi-hit games for the
Mariners, who finished with 13 hits in the contest.
Sophomore Marissa Thomas scattered nine hits over 7.0
innings and allowed only two runs while striking out five.
She improved to 11-4 overall on the season.
Mitchell will close out the regular season with a doubleheader at
Elms College on Friday, April 30 at 3 p.m.
