KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Mitchell College softball team dropped a pair of games to open the 2011 season at the Rebel Spring Games on Monday afternoon. The Mariners lost by finals of 9-1 to Emmanuel College and 15-2 to Catholic University.
Senior Jen Bordonaro paced Mitchell on the day, going a combined 3-for-6 over the two games with a triple and two runs scored. Juniors Nikki Hoxie and Brittany Zaccaria each finished with a RBI on opening day to fuel the offense.
Mitchell's opponents each used third-inning rallies to break the games open. Emmanuel scored five runs in its frame to take a 7-1 lead while a 10-run eruption from Catholic gave it a 13-1 edge. The Mariners didn't help their own cause on defense and committed four errors in each game.
Mitchell returns to action with a pair of games on Tuesday at the Rebel Spring Games. The Mariners will face Geneva College at 9 a.m. and Bluffton University at 11 a.m.
