WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Mitchell College softball team dropped a pair of games at Saint Joseph University on Wednesday afternoon, falling by final scores of 12-0 and 9-0 in non-conference action.
SJU's pitching dominated the day. Patti Sciglimpaglia allowed only two hits in the opener and Danielle Circosta tossed a one-hitter in the second game.
Danielle Autieri and Shannon O'Neil each singled in the first inning of the opener, but the Mariners couldn't capitalize. Sciglimpaglia then retired the final 12 batters she faced to improve to 7-0 on the season.
In the second game, Circosta took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before a two-out double by Suzanne Vachon ruined the bid. The game ended in the bottom of the frame as Sciglimpaglia swatted a two-run homer to bring the eight-run mercy rule into effect.
Mitchell (2-12 overall) returns to action at Lesley University on Saturday, April 2 at noon.
