Three From Softball Grab NECC Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Three members of the Mitchell College softball team were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Wednesday as the league announced its annual awards.
Junior Madison Nicynski was named to the all-conference first team while freshmen Katelyn Lipsky and Hannah Lemke each landed spots on the all-conference second team. Nicynski was also one of six players named to the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.
Nicynski, a second baseman, earned all-conference honors for the first time in her career. She hit .302 with eight RBI and six runs scored over 24 games this season. She also batted .394 and drove in seven runs in league action.
Lipsky was one of four pitchers to earn all-conference recognition. She posted a 7-10 record in 21 appearances and led the NECC in both strikeouts (105) and innings pitched (107.1). Four of her wins came in league play, where she logged 70.2 innings and 70 strikeouts. She was also a three-time NECC Rookie of the Week selection during the regular season.
Lemke batted a team-high .391 over 23 games in her rookie campaign. In NECC action she raised that average to .460 and hit safely in 13 of 17 contests, a stretch that included a 12-game hitting streak. She also made six appearances in the circle, five of which came during league play.
Mitchell finished the season with an overall record of 8-17 (5-11 NECC) under second-year head coach Erin Miller.
