Women's Tennis Falls 8-1 at Becker
LEICESTER, Mass. - Becker College soared to an 8-1 win over visiting Mitchell College in NECC women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at the Leicester tennis courts.
The Hawks are now 3-5 overall with a 2-2 record in the NECC while the Mariners dropped to 2-4 overall with a 2-2 conference mark.
Sophomore Jennifer Schmidt, who was named NECC Player of the Week on Monday, provided the sole bright spot for the Mariners. She came back from a set down to win at number four singles by a final of 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).
Five Hawks had straight-set victories in the singles bracket, with Nicole Connolly posting a 6-0, 6-2 win at number one to lead the way. Kathleen Razzaboni won at number two, 6-1, 6-1, and Anna Pilip turned in a 6-2, 6-0 effort. Kerry Saltvick won at number five, 6-3, 6-0, and Shauna Buckley lost only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at number six. Becker swept doubles play, with Cameron Murphy teaming with Pilip for an 8-4 victory at number two doubles.
Mitchell will next play at Regis College on Saturday, September 29 at 11 a.m.
