Women's Tennis Swept by Regis
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Regis College won all but one set while powering to a 9-0 victory over Mitchell College in a New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis matchup on Wednesday afternoon at the Mack Tennis Courts.
Regis got off to a strong start by taking all three doubles points. The top duo of Jessie Lord and Erica Murphy didn't lose a game while the teams of Emily Rice and Katasha Jarvis and Jewel Medeiros and Sara Kanarkiewicz won by 8-2 finals at No. 2 and 3, respectively.
The Pride carried the momentum in singles play as Jarvis, Medeiros and Amy DiPace all won by 6-0, 6-0 finals at the bottom three spots. Murphy and Rice also won in straight sets at No. 2 and 3, respectively.
The most competitive singles match of the day came at the top spot where Lord and Mitchell senior Samantha Ryan split sets. Lord took the first in a tiebreaker before Ryan rallied back for a 6-1 win in the second. In lieu of a third set the two played a 10-point tiebreaker that saw Lord come out on top by a 10-7 margin.
Mitchell (2-7, 2-5 NECC) will next play at Newbury College on Thursday, October 8 at 7:30 p.m. Regis (10-1, 9-0 NECC) returns to action at Becker College on Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m.
