Women's Volleyball Duo Earn NECC Weekly Honors
MANSFIELD, Mass. -- Two Mitchell College women's volleyball players were recognized by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday morning.
Senior Olivia DeLoach was named NECC Player of the Week while freshman libero Julia Lent was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week. The duo helped the Mariners to a 3-0 record for the week, including victories against Dean College, Framingham State, and Mass. Maritime.
DeLoach posted three double-doubles, which began in a sweep of Dean, where she tallied 10 kills and 11 digs. Then, in a 3-2 win over Framingham State, she piled on 24 kills with 31 digs. Finally, she added 11 kills and 10 digs to finish out the week with a 3-0 win over Mass Maritime. She averaged 4.09 kills per set and 4.73 digs per set, while adding six service aces on the week.
Freshman Julia Lent had a strong week defensively for the Mariners, tallying double-digit digs in each of Mitchell's three wins. She started the week with 10 digs in a 3-0 win over Dean. She followed that performance with 31 digs in a 3-2 win over Framingham State and ended the week with another 11 at Mass Maritime. The rookie averaged 4.73 digs per set, and chipped in three service aces in a 3-0 week.
Mitchell (6-2 overall) will next play at Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
