Volleyball Rolls Over Norwich, Collects Second Consecutive Victory
NORTHFIELD, NT.- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team won their second consecutive conference game on Friday evening, taking down Norwich University in straight sets at Andrews Hall. The Mariners won by set scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-22, improving their GNAC record to 2-2 on the fall.
Allison Blum (Garden Grove, Cali.) paced the Mariners with 11 kills. The junior added 17 digs, while sophomore Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 37 digs, tying her for second place in the Division III era of the program for digs in a single set. Jenna Blankenship (Virden, Ill.) kept busy, handing out a match-best 22 assists, while senior Julianna Repaci (New Britain, Conn.) recorded 18 assists, falling just one short of her season-high.
Leah Mathewson led Norwich with seven assists and Autumn Parkhurst tallied a team-best 23 digs. Lillie Ells and Giovanna Fruci were credited with 17 and 15 digs apiece, while Gina Caraccio dished out 18 assists for the Cadets in the loss.
Winners of two straight GNAC matches, Mitchell (4-6, 2-2 GNAC) will look to keep their streak alive when they return to conference play at home on Wednesday, September 27th, against Elms College. Norwich (3-6, 2-2 GNAC) will play next on Saturday, September 30th, when they host a tri-match with Emmanuel College and Elms College.
