Hartenstein named All-America by ABCA & D3baseball.com
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College junior Kyle Hartenstein picked up a pair of All-America honors on Thursday.
The American Baseball Coaches Association released the 2017 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-America teams on Thursday evening, and Hartenstein landed a spot on the third team. Earlier in the day, he was selected All-America honorable mention by the popular website D3baseball.com.
Hartenstein, a second baseman, is the first Mitchell player to earn All-America status from the ABCA. He becomes the third player in Mitchell's history to be recognized by D3baseball.com, joining John Apostolo (2011) and Jeremy Chapman (2010), who were also honorable mention selections.
An all-conference and all-region first team honoree, Hartenstein started and played all 42 games and hit .422 with 43 RBI and a team-high 51 runs scored. His 70 hits shattered the school's single season record, and he also set a new benchmark for doubles (19). After three years he sits in second place all-time at Mitchell in both career hits (171) and RBI (95).
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions. The 2017 season marks the 11th year that D3baseball.com has named All-America teams, with over 800 players nominated.
Mitchell finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 29-13 that included a 14-4 mark in New England Collegiate Conference play.
