Baseball Keeps It Rolling vs. Coast Guard

NORWICH, Conn. – Mitchell College exploded for all six runs in the fifth inning en route to a 6-3 win over Coast Guard Academy on Wednesday afternoon at Dodd Stadium.
Mitchell (26-3 overall) claimed its 11th straight win and swept the season series from the Bears. Coast Guard wrapped up its season at 16-16 overall.
Evan Peck, Ryan Goodwin and Peter McTernan each had two hits in the win for Mitchell. McTernan and Rafael Garcia each doubled for the game's only extra-base hits.
The Bears went up 1-0 in the first inning as Matt Hanks singled and later scored on a RBI single by Tim Duncan. Coast Guard starter Colton Cannon allowed just three hits over the first four innings and kept the Mariners off the scoreboard before giving way to the bullpen.
In the fifth, Mitchell sent 10 batters to the plate and plated six runs on four hits and an error. Kenneth Olszewski's two-run single gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead, and Goodwin added a RBI single before Neftali Arroyo drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-1. Drew Doyle's RBI single knocked in the fifth run, and the sixth run scored while Coast Guard was throwing out the trail runner on the bases to make it 6-1.
The Bears loaded the bases in the sixth and scored when Alex Murdoch's fielder's choice plated a run. Coast Guard added its final run in the eighth as Duncan singled and scored on a RBI single by Murdoch.
Mitchell's Eddie Santiago (3-0 overall) picked up the win in relief as he worked 5.0 and allowed five hits and a pair of earned runs while walking one and striking out three. Domenick Giaramida pitched a hitless ninth and fanned two batters to register his second save of the season. Bryton Ferris got the starting nod for the Mariners and allowed five hits and an earned run in 3.0 innings worked with one strikeout.
Dylan Wright (0-1 overall) took the loss for the Bears in relief as he allowed six runs (four earned). Andrew Lucak allowed five hits in 3.2 scoreless innings of relief while Eric Vrissis pitched a scoreless ninth for Coast Guard.
Mitchell returns to action with a weekend series against Becker College to wrap up New England Collegiate Conference play. The Mariners will play two at Becker on Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m.
