Pina Honored by D3baseball.com
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College junior Tyler Pina was one of 42 players from New England who were recognized by D3baseball.com on Monday as the web site released its annual all-region teams.
Pina, a designated hitter, was named to the all-region second team. He becomes the fourth player in Mitchell's history to earn D3baseball.com regional recognition, joining Tyler Shamas (2013, 2015), Al Jordan Johnson (2015) and Kenneth Olszewski (2015).
Pina played in all 39 games and batted a career-high .372 with 26 RBI. He led the Mariners in runs scored (35), doubles (12), homers (2) and stolen bases (9) and garnered New England Collegiate Conference first team honors. He was also named most valuable player of the 2016 NECC Championship as the Mariners (28-11 overall) won their third straight league title.
The 2016 season marks the fifth year that D3baseball.com has named all-region teams, with over 800 players nominated. The ballot was then made available to sports information directors—who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region—as well as D3baseball.com staff and contributors.
