BASEBALL WINS IN "GRAND" FASHION OVER STATEN ISLAND
NEW LONDON, CT-- Mitchell College (7-5, 6-1 CUNYAC) rode another strong pitching performance and an offensive explosion to take down the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island (4-10, 2-2 CUNYAC) 11-1 on a cold Friday afternoon at Alumni Field. They scored three times in both the 1st and 3rd innings and put up a five spot in their last time at-bat in the 6th.
Sophomore southpaw and reigning CUNYAC pitcher of the week Adam Deltgen (St. Bernard HS/Norwich, CT) went the distance allowing one run on six hits to up his record to 3-0 on the season. The 11 run output was led by senior captains Dan Lanoue (Cranston HS/Cranston, RI) ,who went 4 for 4 and drove in 2 runs from the leadoff spot, and Sal Messina (Wolcott HS/Prospect, CT) who went 2 for 4 with 5 RBIs. The final of his two hits was a towering grand slam in the 6th that rounded out the scoring for the Pequots.
The lone Dolphin run came on an RBI single by freshman first baseman Andrew Baio (St. Joseph by the Sea/Staten Island, NY) in the 6th inning to end Deltgen's shutout bid.
The Pequots and Dolphins will continue their three game set with a double-header tomorrow with first pitch at 12 noon.
