Baruch Defeats Mitchell in CUNY Championship Baseball Action
Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Mitchell College baseball team fell to Baruch
College today, 9-1, in the first game of the (City University of
New York Athletic Conference) CUNYAC Championship this
afternoon. For the Mariners, junior catcher Matt Radke
(Terryville, Conn.) and sophomore shortstop Jeff Perillo
(Newington, Conn.) each had two hits in the loss.
The #1 seed Bearcats scored a run in each of the first three
innings for a quick 5-0 lead and also added three runs in the sixth
inning to record the victory.
For Baruch, Junior David Chestnut pitched a complete game
five-hitter with six strikeouts and also batted 3-for-5 with a
double to lead the team this afternoon.
Senior Joseph Valentin (double, triple), senior Jorge Rosado (two
doubles) and sophomore James Meehan (three singles) also
contributed three hits each as part of the team's 16 total hits on
the afternoon.
Jeremy Chapman (Waterford, Conn.) took the loss and pitched 4.1
innings and gave up 10 hits, six runs, and struck out four
batters.
Mitchell (10-22) will face the loser of Game 2 (John Jay vs. Staten
Island) at 1:00 pm on Friday at Keyspan Park in Brooklyn.
