Baseball Takes Final Game Against Daniel Webster
NASHUA, N.H. - The Mitchell College baseball team moved into a tie
for first place in the NECC standings with a 15-6 victory over
Daniel Webster College on Monday afternoon at Harvey Woods
Field.
Trailing 6-2 after four innings, Mitchell (11-9 overall, 6-3 NECC)
rallied with three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh
before breaking the game open with a seven-run eighth. Senior Andrew Langlais tossed a complete game and knocked in
four runs as the Mariners took two of three from Daniel Webster
(13-11 overall, 6-3 NECC) in the three-game set after splitting a
doubleheader Sunday at Mitchell.
Langlais (2-3 overall) allowed six earned runs on nine hits over
the nine innings, striking out nine and walking one. He went
2-for-5 at the plate with a two-run double in the sixth and a
two-run single in the eighth.
Elliott Kilgore led the Eagles with three RBI including a
two-run single in the second. Nick Lalumia, Chuck Manning and Zach
Cantor knocked in single runs. David Wesson took the loss (1-3
overall) in relief of starter Zach Hurley, who went six
innings.
Sophomore Tommy Derosier went 4-for-5 with an RBI for Mitchell in
the ninth spot while classmate Ethan
Graynor went 2-for-4 and knocked in three runs.
Freshman Connor Rochefort, who had a game-winning hit in
the 4-3 win on Sunday, went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored
three times.
Mitchell pushed two runs across in the top of the first before DWC
answered with three in the second. The
Eagles got Langlais for four hits in the
frame, including Kilgore’s two-run single.
DWC tacked on three more in the fourth for a 6-2 lead, including a
RBI double from Manning. Cantor followed with a triple
and later scored on a Kilgore sacrifice bunt.
Mitchell climbed back in it with three in the sixth. A
run-scoring single from Graynor got things started, and Langlais
followed with a two-run double. The Mariners then took the lead
with two unearned runs in the seventh.
The Mariners sent 13 men to the plate in the fateful eighth and
were aided by six walks and an error in the inning. Mitchell tacked
on another unearned run in the ninth for the final margin.
Mitchell next visits Salve Regina on Wednesday, April 21 at
3:30 p.m.
