Baseball Duo Named to D3Baseball.com Team of the Week
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College juniors Dougie DelaCruz and Hunter Yaworski were named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Every week during the regular season, the popular web site recognizes the top performers from across the nation at each position. Both DelaCruz and Yaworski earned the honor for the first time in their careers. It also marked the first time that two Mariners have been recognized in the same week. The last Mitchell player to earn the distinction was Eric Marriott in 2019.
The duo led Mitchell to a 5-1 week in New England Collegiate Conference play that included a win over New England College and a four-game sweep against Lesley University. The Mariners also moved into a tie for first place in the league standings with two weeks remaining in the regular season.
DelaCruz batted .571 with three doubles, three homers and a team-high 20 RBI over the six games, hitting safely and knocking in runs in each game while slugging 1.143 for the week. He hit a grand slam and finished with seven RBI in the win over New England College. He then went 9-for-15 with two doubles, two homers, 12 RBI and nine runs scored in a four-game series against Lesley.
Yaworski batted .733 with two doubles, two homers and 15 RBI last week. He swatted both home runs—one of which was a grand slam—in a win over Lesley and collected a career-high eight RBI in the contest, one shy of the school record.
Mitchell (12-5 overall, 5-1 NECC) will next play at New England College on Wednesday, April 21 at 1 p.m.
