First Round in the Books at NECC Men's Golf Championship
STOW, Mass. – The Babson College men's golf team sits atop the leaderboard after Saturday's first round of the 2013 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship at Wedgewood Pines Country Club.
The Beavers finished the opening round with a team score of 308. Both Springfield College and Elms College are close behind, each tied for second with team scores of 317. Rounding out the leaderboard were Newbury College (334), Daniel Webster College (354), Becker College (356) and Mitchell College (371).
Babson sophomore Vijay Vasandani and Elms senior Henry Fall are tied for first place after carding rounds of 69. The three-under par round also tied the NECC all-time record, set by former Babson golfer Joe Young at the 2011 NECC Championship.
Junior Cameron D'Agostino responded from a rocky front nine, firing a two-under 34 on the back for a career-low 76 to lead host Newbury. Daniel Webster sophomore Clint Goodwin carded a 77 while Becker senior Ryan Benson turned in a score card of a 79. Senior Michael Pinkerton led Mitchell with a round of 88.
The 2013 NECC Golf Championship will conclude on Sunday with a final round of 18 holes at Wedgewood Pines. All teams will tee off at 10:00 a.m.
