MGolf Hosts Mitchell Invitational
GROTON, Conn. – Nichols College captured top honors at the Mitchell Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.
The Bison finished first overall as a team with a score of 331 while Kevin Wheeler took home individual medalist honors with a five-over-par round of 76. Rounding out the team standings were Newbury College (334), Newbury B (342), Becker College (346) and Mitchell College (392).
Heavy winds throughout the round kept pressure on all the golfers. Wheeler responded the best, leading the field of 24 competitors with 10 pars for his round.
Newbury's Michael Scibelli finished as runner-up with a round of 78. He led all players on the day with four total birdies. Teammate Daniel Lumb finished third overall at 79.
Sophomore Taylor Zaldivar led the Mariners on the day, carding a career-low round of 88 to finish tied for 14th overall. Rounding out the scoring for Mitchell was senior Richard Palaia (20th, 95) and freshmen Bobby Lord (21st, 103) and Anthony Sabatino (T-23rd, 106).
Mitchell will next compete at the 2011 NECC Championship on October 8-9 at D.W. Field Golf Course in Brockton, MA.
