McLean Matches Career Best Round, as Men’s Golf Tops Dean
RICHMOND, R.I. – Senior Shamus McLean (Groton, Conn.) matched his career-best with a round score of 68 to claim the top individual spot on Friday afternoon at the Mitchell College men's golf duel with Dean College at Beaver River Golf Club. McLean has now claimed medalist honors in five of the six events the Mariners have competed in this fall and has posted an average round score of 72.
McLean carded a round of two-under and helped the Mariners take the top team score with a total of 325 (+45), while the Bulldogs wrapped the day with a score of 337 (+57). Mitchell senior Jack Hayes (New Milford, Conn.) and Benjamin Godburn of Dean tied for second indivudally, each carding rounds of 80 (+10).
Senior Liam Kane (Waterford, Conn.) fired his best round of the season with an 87 (+17) for the Mariners, while freshman Israel Smith (Houston, TX) trailed right behind with a round score of 90 (+20). Senior Micheal Thompson (Hamden, Conn.) rounded out the Mitchell golfers with a 105 (+35).
The Mariners will get one more round in before the Great Northeast Athletic Confernce (GNAC) Championship when they compete in the Emmanuel Invitational on Wednesday, October 9, at the South Shore Country Club in Hingham, Massachusetts.
