Gaboury Wins EC Saints Invitational
HINGHAM, Mass. -- Sam Gaboury finished as the individual medalist at the EC Saints Invitational on Thursday afternoon, helping the Mitchell College men's golf team to a third-place finish at South Shore Country Club.
Gaboury picked up his first collegiate win by shooting a two-over par round of 74 to best the field of 19 golfers. He played the front nine in one-under par and finished four shots ahead of runner-up Jacob Waldroop of Eastern Nazarene College. The 74 was the lowest round carded by a Mitchell golfer since 2015. Gaboury has now finished in the top five in five of six tournaments this season.
Nick Knisel and Michael Izzo each turned in rounds of 84 to keep the Mariners in the hunt for the team title. Jared Simkewicz shot 126 in his collegiate debut while Drew Gensicki finished with a 131 in his first action of the season.
Eastern Nazarene took home the team title with a score of 339. Wentworth finished as runner-up at 346 while Mitchell (368) and Emmanuel (378) rounded out the field.
The Mariners will next host the Mitchell Invite III on Wednesday, October 10 at noon.
