Men's Golf Takes Fourth at Emmanuel Invitational
BOSTON – The Mitchell College men's golf team finished in fourth place at the 2016 Emmanuel College Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.
Daniel Webster senior Clint Goodwin carded a 76 to earn individual medalist honors, but it was Suffolk University that took home the team crown with a team score of 329. Goowin's Eagles finished second with a 343 followed by the host Saints with a 348. Rounding out the field was Mitchell at 353.
All five Rams carded scores in the 80's led by a team-low of 80 by freshman Demetrois Stamouli out of the No. 5 spot. Freshman Owen Boggini wasn't far behind with an 81 out of the No. 4 spot followed by senior Patrick Hambleton's 83 from the No. 3 slot. Sophomore Stephen Ferrante rounded out the scores with an 85 from the No. 1 roster position.
Goodin paced the Eagles with his 76, shooting 38 on both the front and back sides of the course. The next best score on the card for DWC came from senior Richard Eaton (88) out of the No. 4 spot.
The host Saints received a solid outing by freshman Taylor Kieselback who shot an 82 in his first collegiate match. Sophomore Anthony Springthorpe posted an 86 out of the No. 2 spot while senior Tyler Russ carded a 41 on the front nine but ended the afternoon with an 89 from the No. 3 position. Sophomore Brian Daly carded a 91 in his first match of the season.
Mitchell received solid scores from its top three players led by David Eichelberg's 79 from the No. 2 hole. Mike Izzo carded an 84 from the No. 1 spot while Jake Hancock fired an 85 from the No. 3 position.
The Mariners will next compete against Purchase College on Wednesday, September 21 at Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich, Conn.
