BASEBALL TALLIES WIN AGAINST CROSS TOWN RIVAL COAST GUARD
NEW LONDON, CT--Mitchell College improved to 14-8 on the season with a victory over cross town rival Coast Guard Tuesday afternoon, 11-7. With the loss, Coast Guard falls to 10-16.
Leading the Mitchell charge was senior first baseman Sal Messina (Wolcott HS/Prospect, CT) who went 3-for-4 with a triple short of a cycle, driving in four runs and scoring three runs himself. Junior third baseman Shawn Guiney (New London HS/New London, CT) and junior center fielder Alex Hamlin (Kennett HS/Intervale, NH) each drove in two runs. Freshman pitcher/designated hitter Andy Langlais (Ledyard HS/Ledyard, CT) went 2-for-5 from the plate and pitched the final 3 1/3 innings to record his first save of the season.
For the Bears the damage was done by senior center fielder Chuck Arena (Austin HS/Houston, TX), who went 4-for-5 with a home run and had three RBI's, and junior second baseman Brian Lisko (Waynesboro HS/Waynesboro, PA) who finished the day 2-for-5 with one of those two hits being a bases clearing double in the fifth inning.
Mitchell's next game will be this Sunday April 29th at home doubleheader against Yeshiva at 1:00 PM. Coast Guard will return to action Thursday April 26th in the NEWMAC tournament.
