Baseball Slugs Past Fisher in Seven
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College baseball team came away with an 11-4 victory over Fisher College in seven innings on Tuesday afternoon.
Leadoff hitter Jeremy Sagun went 1-for-3 with a double and four RBI on the day to lead the Mariners. Anthony Laureano went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI while Matt Falk also drove in a pair of runs.
Jakari Pellegrini picked up his second win of the young season by tossing 4.0 innings in relief. He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out three.
The Mariners went up 3-0 in the second inning as Sagun delivered a base-clearing double that plated all three runs. Mitchell gave a run back in the top of the third before responding with four in the home half, with the help of three Fisher errors.
The Falcons made it 7-3 in the fourth behind a two-run homer by Dennis Santiago and added another run in the fifth on a ground out by John Batista. However, Laureano hit a ground-rule double in the bottom of the frame to pad the Mitchell lead to 8-4.
The Mariners tacked on three runs in the sixth to pull away. Laureano plated his second runner of the contest with a single through the left side of the infield to make it 11-4.
Fisher starter Angel Alicea took his first loss of the year, giving up seven runs (three earned) on two hits over 2.0 innings.
