DelaCruz Lands on D3Baseball.com Team of the Week
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College junior Dougie DelaCruz was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week on Tuesday.
Every week during the season, the popular web site recognizes the top performers from across the nation at each position. It marked the second time this season that DelaCruz has earned the distinction.
DelaCruz led Mitchell to victory at the 2021 New England Collegiate Conference Championship this past weekend. He was named tournament MVP after batting a team-high .643 with four doubles, eight RBI and eight runs scored. He opened the tournament with five hits—including the 100th of his career—and five RBI in a win over Becker College. He then doubled and scored a pair of runs against New England College, and in the title game against Elms College he finished with three hits and three RBI. His final RBI of the tournament was his 57th of the season and broke the school's single season record.
DelaCruz, a left fielder, is batting .437 with 11 doubles and a team-high seven home runs this season. He also ranks among the national leaders in RBI per game (1.9). Last week he was named NECC Player of the Year for the second time in his career (2019).
Mitchell (24-6 overall) has won 11 straight games and 17 of its last 18. The Mariners have earned the NECC's automatic NCAA Championship bid for the sixth time since 2011. The 48-team field will be announced by the NCAA on May 23.
