Martinez Tabbed NECC Player of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Lelo Martinez was named New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league on Monday.
Martinez batted .533 with a double, five RBI and four runs scored last week as the Mariners went 4-0. He knocked in a pair of runs in a 6-3 win over Keene State College to start the week, and he had multiple hits in all three league games against Lesley University. In the series finale versus the Lynx he had three hits, drove in two runs and stole a pair of bases. He hit safely in all four games and slugged .600 for the week.
Martinez, who plays third base, earned the honor for the first time in his career. He is the third Mitchell player to nab the award this season, joining Bo Yaworski (March 14) and Matt Falk (March 21).
Through 30 games, Martinez is batting a career-high .394 with 44 RBI and 70 runs scored. He currently ranks second in the NECC in runs scored and third in batting average.
Mitchell (23-7 overall, 6-2 NECC) will next play at New England College on Tuesday, April 26 at 1:00 p.m.
