Lalli Named GNAC Baseball Player of the Week
WINTHROP, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Cole Lalli (Coventry, Conn.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Lalli was tabbed as GNAC Player of the Week for the first time this season and in his career, becoming the first Mitchell player to earn the honor this spring.
Lalli, an outfielder, turned in the best week of his career, slashing .533/.550/.933 with a home run, three doubles, nine RBI, and three runs scored, helping guide the Mariners to a 3-2 record at Florida's Russmatt Baseball Invitational. The senior reached base in all five games and collected multiple hits in three of them.
He began the week by doing 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored in a loss to then nationally ranked Webster University. Lalli then went 2-6 with a pair of RBI, a run scored, and one stolen base in a doubleheader sweep over Spalding University. His hot play continued during the back end of the week with a 2-2 performance against nationally ranked Johns Hopkins University, which included a double and a walk, before ending the week on a high note Friday, finishing 2-4 with a game tying grand slam, a go ahead double, and six RBI in a come from behind win over SUNY Brockport.
His eighth inning game grand slam against Brockport tied the game at 7-7, then one inning later he came through again, lacing a two-run double to put the Mariners up for good.
In nine games this season, the senior is batting .414 with two home runs, 15 RBI, six runs scored, and four doubles.
The Mariners (8-4, 0-0) are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 19th, with a non-conference game against the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 3:30 pm.
