McLean Earns Medalist Honors as Golf Wins to Open Season
GROTON, Conn. – Senior Shamus McLean (Groton, Conn.) finished with an even par score of 71 to earn medalist honors, as the Mitchell College men's golf team opened up their season with a victory over Lesley University on Friday at Shennecossett Golf Course.
The Mariners took home the top team score in the two-team duel, finishing with a 339 (+55), while Lesley University was second with a 342 (+58).
McLean, who shot a 36 on the front nine and a 35 on the back nine, was trailed by fellow Mitchell senior Jack Hayes (New Milford, Conn.), who finished with a 75, good for the lowest round of his collegiate career. Jeremy Ouellette of Lesley was the third place finisher with a round score of 77, while Patrick Teasdale (83) and Hunter Treanor (87) of the Lynx rounded out the top five.
Freshman Israel Smith (Houston, TX) was third on the Mariners with a 95. Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) shot a 98 and Liam Kane (Waterford, Conn.) shot a 108 to round out the day for Mitchell.
The Mariners will return to Shennecossett Golf Course on Wednesday, September 11, when they host the Mitchell Invite I with a start time of 12:00 pm.
