Saint Joseph Downs Women's Tennis in Rematch

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Mitchell College women's tennis team won
all three doubles matches on Thursday evening but lost by a 6-3
final at Saint Joseph College.
The Blue Jays improved to 3-6 overall with their second win over
the Mariners this season. Mitchell dropped to 0-8 overall.
The contest began with singles play, and Saint Joseph won all six
matches in straight sets. The most competitive match of the day was
at No. 4 singles, where junior Kelly Walsh faced off against
Laura D'Angelo. The first set was close throughout, though D'Angelo
battled for a 7-5 win. She then took the second set by a 6-3
margin.
The Mariners rebounded to sweep the doubles matches. Freshmen Julie
Felts and Erica Fazio won for the fourth time this season at No. 1
doubles, defeating Gianna Gurga and Kameshia Cooper by an 8-4
final. Junior Ilana Papernik teamed with Walsh for an 8-0 win at
No. 2 doubles while freshmen Carly Crozer and Julie Embley picked
up an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
Mitchell returns to action at Johnson and Wales University on
Monday, October 5 at 3:30 p.m.
