WTennis Falls 8-1 at Becker
LEICESTER, Mass. – Becker College defeated Mitchell College 8-1 in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon.
Becker opened the match with a clean sweep of doubles action. Cameron Murphy and Anna Pilip held on to defeat Carly Paterson and Samantha Ryan in top doubles play, 8-6. In number two doubles action, Shauna Buckley and Kerry Saltvick bested Jenny Groman and Alexa Litwak, 8-2. Lily Woodward-Logan and Chenylle Mercado gave the Hawks a sweep of doubles with an 8-3 win over Veyda McVey and Jessey Myers in number three doubles.
In top singles play, Murphy defeated Paterson in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Pilip needed a third set tiebreaker to down Litwak in number two singles, 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7). Ryan earned the Mariners' lone win of the match when she defeated Saltvick in number three singles play, 6-3, 6-1. In number four singles, Buckley downed Chelsea Arpin, 6-4, 6-2. Woodward-Logan and Mercado finished with victories in number five and six singles.
The win lifted the Hawks' record to 3-9 (2-5 NECC), while the Mariners dropped to 0-9 (0-7 NECC).
Mitchell will wrap up the season with a home match against Regis College on Saturday, October 11 at 3:30 p.m.
