Women's Tennis Shut Out at Regis
WESTON, Mass. – Regis College captured a 9-0 win over visiting Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride, who claimed their third straight victory, improved to 4-2 overall 3-0 in league play. Abbie Wehr and Emily Rice registered wins in both singles and doubles play to lead the Pride.
Regis started the day by sweeping all three doubles matches. Wehr and Rice won first doubles, 8-2, over senior Carly Paterson and freshman Samantha Ryan. Jewel Medeiros and Jessie Lord captured an 8-1 win at second doubles, while Kat Troisi and Winnie Mataganyidze defeated their Mitchell opponents by an 8-3 mark.
Four other Regis players came up big in singles play to solidify the win, including Kendall Kolb, who defeated senior Chelsea Arpin, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for the Pride. Erica Murphy used the same set scores to get past Ryan at third singles.
Melinda Mara and Rice each won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Wehr once again got past Paterson at the first position (6-2, 6-1) while Erika Palmer closed out sixth singles with a win over junior Ariel Hallisey (7-5, 6-4).
Mitchell (0-6 overall, 0-4 NECC) will next host Bay Path College on Tuesday, October 1 at 3 p.m.
