Saint Joseph Tops Women's Tennis
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a 9-0 loss to the University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday afternoon at the Mitchell Tennis Courts.
The Blue Jays swept their way to their first win of the season and improved to 1-2 overall. Saint Joseph opened the contest by winning all three doubles matches before cruising to victories in individual action.
The duo of Meghan Toth and Amanda Willhoft powered Saint Joseph to victory. The pair first defeated Carly Paterson and Julie Embley by an 8-3 final at the top doubles spot before picking up singles wins in straight sets. Toth topped Paterson 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Willhoft defeated Jennifer Schmidt by a 6-1, 6-2 final at No. 3.
Lisa Wawryznowski and Emely Chenard also had a strong day for the Blue Jays. The two paired up for an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles, and each only dropped one game en route to singles victories.
Mitchell will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Friday, September 14 at 3:30 p.m.
