Women's Tennis Falls 6-3 at Newbury
Box Score
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Mitchell College women's tennis team
dropped a 6-3 decision to Newbury College on Saturday afternoon in
a match played at Pine Manor College.
The Nighthawks decidedly swept doubles play by scores of 8-4, 8-2
and 8-0 as the much improved Newbury team carried the play early in
the event. It was a little different in singles play, as the
scrappy Mariners played well to take three out of the six matches
for the final tally.
Mitchell enjoyed fine play from freshmen Julie Felts, Erica Fazio
and Carly Crozer. Felts defeated Jillian Wojtowicz in straight sets
by finals of 6-2, 6-3 at the top singles spot. Fazio took her first
set but then fell behind in the second; however, she rallied back
to win the final four games and pulled out a 6-4, 7-5 victory over
Kristen Conners. Crozer and Jennifer Swafford split the first two
sets at No. 5 singles, and the two played a tiebreaker in lieu of a
third set. Crozer won the tiebreaker 10-5 to earn the point.
Mitchell returns to action at Becker College on Tuesday, October 13
at 3 p.m.
