Kaftan Named NECC Pitcher of the Week
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Mitchell College senior Eddie Kaftan (Old Lyme, Conn.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for the sport of baseball, as announced by the league on Monday.
Kaftan earned the honor for the first time this season and becomes the third Mitchell player to be named NECC Pitcher of the Week this spring (Tyler Daly 3/20, Ryan Solimine 4/3).
The senior right handed pitcher worked a gem in his lone start for Mariners on the week, tossing a seven-inning four hit shutout in a New England Collegiate Conference win over Lesley University. Kaftan walked nobody, struck out two, and improved his overall record to 6-1. The victory kept Mitchell undefeated in NECC play, improving their record to 10-0. In four starts this season against conference opponents, Kaftan is now 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA in 24 innings pitched.
Kaftan enters the week with a record of 6-1 with a 3.98 ERA. He has allowed just 19 earned runs in 43 innings of work, logging 30 strikeouts to just five walks.
Mitchell (27-6 overall, 10-0 NECC) will next play on Saturday, April 29, when they host Eastern Nazarene College for their final conference doubleheader of the regular season.
