Men's Cross Country Capture NECC Championship

HENNIKER, N.H. -- The Mitchell College men's cross country team captured the New England Collegiate Conference championship on Saturday morning, outpacing second place Eastern Nazarene College and third place Lesley University.

It's the first conference title for the Mariners, who finished as runner-ups four consecutive years from 2008-2011.

Freshman Albert Franck finished in first overall with a time of 18:45, winning both 2022 NECC Runner and Rookie of the Year for his efforts. Sophomore Collin Rider was fifth, completing the race in 20:24, while sophomore Liam Robb and freshman Timothy O'Hayre also secured top 10 finishes, with Robb coming in seventh (20:56) and O'Hayre ninth (22:10). Alexander Nardone and Eddie Kaftan rounded out the scoring for the Mariners with times of 22:57 and 26:44 respectively.

Xavier Depina of Eastern Nazarene was the individual runner up, leading the Lions with a time of 19:04 and Kolten Moyer was best for the Lynx, crossing the finish line in 21:52, good for seventh overall.

Meanwhile, the Mitchell College women's cross country team finished in second place, behind Lesley University who won the conference title for the second straight season. Junior Abigail Rasmussen paced the Mariners, finishing in second place with a time of 24:04, earning All-Conference Honors for her performance.

Hannah Nangle of the Lynx was the leader of the pack, crossing the finish line in 21:40. Sophomore Aizhane Glenn (29:54) and senior Katelyn Lipsky also finished within the top 10, with Glenn in ninth and Lipsky in 10th.

Emma Labreck (36:58), Hannah Lemke (40:08), Brooke Taylor (40:08), Jenna Bennett (41:04), Alana Chapelle (41:44), and Brooke Whitmarsh (41:46) rounded out the scoring for the Mitchell women.

Mitchell head coach Tim Strong also earned NECC Coach of the Year honors, as voted upon by his peers.
