
Cross Country Races at Blazer Classic
CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams ran at the Elms College Blazer Classic on Saturday morning.
The Mariners finished fourth in the men's 8k event and second in the women's 6k race. Both results were season best finishes for Mitchell, who finished in sixth and fifth in their season opening meet at Wesleyan's Cardinal Invitational last weekend.
Emmanuel College took home the top team spot in the women's race with 19 points, while Emma Krantz of the Saints was the top individual finisher with a time of 26:34. The Emmanuel men were also winners as a team with a score of 47, yet Nathan Cournoyer of Eastern Nazarene College took home the top individual spot, crossing the finish line in31:37.
Freshman Inonda Peterson paced the women, finishing in seventh overall with a time of 32:02. Junior Katelyn Lipsky was the next Mariner to cross the finish line, finishing 14th in 38:45. Michelle Ramos (40:47), Madison Cole (44:18), and Olivia DeCicco (44:18) rounded out the scoring for Mitchell, finishing 16th, 18th, and 19th respectively.
Freshman Jonathan Hecker raced to a third place overall finish in the men's race, completing the 8k course in 32:11. The next Mariner to cross the finish line was freshman Zion Huntley in 15th at 41:36, followed by Tim O'Hayre, who came in 17th with a time of 42:55. Gerjuan Tyus (44:18) and Xavier Haney (50:14) rounded out the pack for the Mitchell men, finishing in 19th and 22nd respectively.
The Mitchell men's and women's cross country team will race next on Friday, September 22nd, at their home course, Stenger Farm Park in Waterford, Connecticut.
