Conn Races Past MBB
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College dropped a 76-43 final to Connecticut College on Sunday afternoon in a men's basketball match-up at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Conn's Jeff Allen came off the bench to lead all scorers with 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting. He also shot 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and grabbed 10 rebounds to secure a double-double. Ben Rice added 13 points, 10 boards and six steals while David Murray chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Jarron Flynn rounded out the Camels in double figures with 10 points.
Jacob Tully paced Mitchell with 13 points. Elijah Baidoo added eight while Julius Hemingway chipped in seven points and seven caroms.
Conn's defense limited the Mariners to just 22 percent shooting in the contest. The Camels also blocked a total of 12 shots forced 19 turnovers.
The visitors never trailed, opening the game with eight straight points that included back-to-back buckets by Murray. The Mariners later trailed 15-2 before connecting on their first field goal of the afternoon after missing their first eight attempts.
The Camels led 33-16 at halftime and kept their foot on the gas in the second, eventually building a 44-point lead with 8:40 to play. Allen dropped in 13 points over the final 20 minutes to lead the charge.
Conn finished the contest with a 52-47 edge on the glass. Ryan Omslaer had a big day in the paint with 10 rebounds and six blocks to go with eight points.
Mitchell (0-3 overall) will next play at Babson College on Wednesday, March 10 at 7 p.m. Conn (1-2 overall)
