LEICESTER, Mass. – Becker College defeated Mitchell College 88-66 in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Thursday evening.
The lifts the Hawks record to 13-8 (9-3 NECC), while the Mariners sink to 15-5 (11-2 NECC).
The Hawks (13-8 overall, 9-3 NECC) shot a blazing 57 percent from the field, with four of their starters scoring in double figures. Donovin Ford-Hayes went 6-for-11 from three-point range, scoring a game-high 24 points. Rashaun Liggon finished with 15 points and a game-best 14 rebounds to record a double-double, and David Maturah added 15 points while Tyler Roberson chipped in with 14 points.
Mitchell (15-5, 11-2 NECC) was led junior Parris Hill with a team-high 15 points. Senior Joshua Ford added 13 points while sophomore Frank Martin finished with 11, and freshman Damion Hewitt came off the bench to pull down a team-best eight rebounds.
The game was tied at 10-10 after the first five minutes, but Becker used an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to seize control for good. The Hawks led 47-35 at the break and never let the margin slip back to single digits in the second stanza.
Becker returns to action on Saturday, February 8 when it travels to Lesley University at 2:00 p.m. The Mariners will take a break from conference play when they travel to Connecticut College on Tuesday, February 11 at 7:00 p.m.
