
Arcadia Slips Past MBB

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Arcadia University junior forward Darrell Mills
netted a game-high 29 points and pulled down 19 boards to help his
team slip past Mitchell College, 84-79, in the opening game of the
second day of the Blazer Tip-off Tournament Sunday at Picknelly
Arena.
Arcadia improved to 1-2 overall while Mitchell dropped to 0-3
on the season. It was all Mariner senior forward Eric Murray in the
early going, as he scored 14 of Mitchells first 21 points in the
opening minutes. Arcadia took a slim 45-43 advantage into the
locker room at the half.
Mitchell was able to gain an eight point lead before Mills and
company took over in the second half. Using a 13-1 run midway
through the stanza, the Knights jumped out to a four point lead,
their first in 10 minutes. It was back and forth the rest of the
way.
Down by six with 18 seconds remaining, Mitchell senior Mike DePaolo netted
one of his three treys to cut the lead in half and keep the
Mariners alive. Knight junior guard Chris Pearson responded hitting
two clutch free throws with two seconds remaining to put the game
away.
Mitchell was led by junior guard Drew Norris' 20 points.
DePaolo followed with 18, while Murray finished with 16 total
points after the hot start. Junior Tyler Blier finished with 15
points and led the team with nine rebounds.
Contributing to Mills' efforts were Pearson (18 points) and senior
forward Glen Gagnon (12 points).
Mitchell will host Albertus Magnus College for its home opener on
Tuesday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m.
