MBB Falls at Yale
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's basketball team dropped a 102-46 decision to Yale University on Saturday afternoon at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
The game marked the first meeting between the two schools and Mitchell's third against an NCAA Division I opponent. The Mariners have previously faced off against Central Connecticut State University (2015-16) and Sacred Heart University (2014-15) in recent years.
Yale, which picked up its 20th straight home victory, has won six of its last seven games. The Bulldogs currently own the fifth-longest home winning streak in the country.
Five Yale players scored in double figures. Noah Yates and Jordan Bruner paced the Bulldogs (8-5 overall) with 14 points apiece. Miye Oni added 13 points and nine rebounds while Eric Monroe and Sam Downey both scored 12 points.
Domenico Santiago and Mack Bertram-Gregory had 11 points apiece to pace Mitchell (0-9 overall). Hasani Williams chipped in with 10 points while Alan Morgan handed out a game-high six assists.
Offensively, the Bulldogs shot 61.5 percent from the field, had assists on 28 of their 40 field goals and made 12 three-pointers. Defensively, Yale limited the Mariners to 32.3 percent from the field.
The Bulldogs also won the battle of the boards 45-33.
Mitchell scored the first four points of the game, but Yale answered with the next 12 to take early command. By midway through the first half the lead was 16, and it grew to 22, 48-26, by halftime.
Mitchell returns to action at Daniel Webster College on Tuesday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m.
