Ford Named NECC Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – For the third time this season, Mitchell College sophomore Joshua Ford was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Ford averaged team highs of 28.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game last week while shooting 73 percent from the floor. He finished with a career-high 30 points on 12-for-16 shooting at Connecticut College and also grabbed eight rebounds with six steals. The rookie forward then made his first nine shots against Newbury College en route to a game-high 26 points on 12-for-17 shooting, pulling down a game-high 14 rebounds to cement his team-leading 10th double-double of the season.
Ford has played in 21 games this season while making 17 starts. He leads the Mariners in scoring (14.4 ppg), rebounding (12.0 rpg), steals (46) and blocks (26) and is shooting 49 percent from the field. He also leads the NECC in rebounding and ranks sixth in the nation in the category.
Ford becomes the first men's player in the NECC to earn rookie of the week status for the third time this season. He also garnered the honor on January 9 and 16.
Mitchell (5-16 overall, 3-11 NECC) will next play at Lesley University on Tuesday, February 14 at 8 p.m.
