MBB's Ford Notches Fourth NECC POW Honor
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College junior Joshua Ford was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week for the sport of men's basketball, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Ford earned the distinction for the fourth time this season (January 14, November 19, 26). No other player in the NECC has earned the honor more than twice.
Ford averaged 27.7 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game while shooting 78 percent from the field last week to help Mitchell to a 2-1 finish to the regular season. He finished with 33 points, nine boards, five assists and three steals in a win at Southern Vermont to start the week. The junior forward added 24 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and four steals in a one-point loss at Becker before ending the regular season with 26 points on 11-for-12 shooting, eight rebounds and six assists in a win over Wheelock.
Ford, who is averaging 21.9 points and 10.9 rebounds per game this season, also helped the Mariners secure their first NECC Championship berth since 2009. Mitchell finished tied for fourth in the conference standings and earned the right to host a first round game in the tournament for the first time ever.
Mitchell will host fifth-seeded Becker College in the first round of the NECC Championship on Tuesday, February 19 at 7 p.m.
