Volleyball Drops Match 3-0 to Pine Manor
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's
volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Pine Manor College on
Thursday night at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Pine Manor (4-4 overall) swept the match by final scores of 25-20,
25-17 and 25-21. Imara Jackson led the Gators with eight kills
while Alie Johnston added seven. Senior Stephanie McKeon finished
with eight kills to lead the Mariners (3-4 overall).
The first set was tied at 13-13 when the Gators pulled ahead for
good. Jennifer Gross and Jackson each contributed a pair of kills
down the stretch as Pine Manor took the 1-0 lead.
Megan Patch was the difference for the Gators in the second set.
She served for nine straight points—including three
aces—to put Pine Manor up 19-9. Mitchell would get no closer
than six the rest of the set, and the Gators took the final point
off a kill by Gross.
The third set was decided in the final moments. With the scored
tied at 19-19, Pine Manor pulled ahead by two following kills from
Johnston and Jackson. Mitchell responded with the next two points
on a kill from junior Bianca Young and an ace by McKeon. The
Gators, however, closed out the match by winning the final four
points, with Johnston providing the final kill to secure the
victory.
Patch finished with a match-high 20 assists and added seven digs
and four aces for the Gators. Senior Jen Bordonaro paced the
Mitchell offense with 12 assists while sophomore Samantha Alevras-Tarbell chipped in with a team-high 10 digs.
Mitchell will next play at Coast Guard on Wednesday, September 29
at 6 p.m.
