VOLLEYBALL GEARS UP WITH YOUNG AND EXCITED TEAM
NEW LONDON, CONN.--Third year head coach Niko Paul is excited about her upcoming season. While the four graduated seniors from last year's squad will be sorely missed, Coach Paul looks forward to building her program with the young group of athletic talent she has assembled this season.
Preview of this season's squad from Coach Paul:
Incoming Setters, Amy Bernardo and Dawn Tevepaugh, of Holyoke High and Blackstone Valley in Massachusetts undertake to bring us to another level as we reach for the DIII Conference Championship Title by their graduating year in 2011. Jennifer Bordonaro, OH/Utility, of The Gilbert School in CT will also deliver for us on both the softball field and the volleyball court.
Defensive specialist, Dana Keele of Cascade High in Montana will cover our backcourt for us along with Chelsea Pratt of Tarzana, CA, Sarah Schroer of Washington, DC, Meagan O'Neil of Braintree, MA, Ilana Papernik of New York, NY, Tanisha Greene of Hartford, CT and Tamires Castro of Ansonia, CT. Kristen Carrington, OH/MB of Uniondale High School in New York will propel us forward into powerhouse status. Look for New London High School graduate Muonia Wiley, a middle blocker, to contest every opponent attack with her blocking skills. All of these young ladies were captains and/or leaders of their high school programs and know the definition of hard-work ethic and demonstrate the winning volleyball attitude we are forging here at Mitchell College.
Returning for us to round out our roster are senior, Sharlene King, junior, Sarah Senetcen, and sophomores, Sarah Krolikowski, Jazmin Powell, Heather-Renae Powers, and Sarah Webster. We have a tremendous opportunity to play elite Division III teams right off the bat such as Keene State, Western New England College, Western Connecticut State University, Westfield State, Clark University, Connecticut College and The Coast Guard Academy.
