NEW LONDON, CT, September 16, 2008 - Mitchell College sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Davis (Ledyard, CT) knocked down a combined 6 kills and 8 digs in tonight's match, but the Mariners dropped 3-0 decision to St. Joseph's College.
Earlier this week Stephanie Davis was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Volleyball Player of the Week. Mitchell coach, Niko Paul, "Stephanie is still coming thru for us and leading the offensive charge. She and Jennifer Bordonaro (Winsted, CT) work so well together and Jennifer continues to run a quick ball to outside."
St. Joseph's Women's Volleyball team, under the direction of first year coach, Val Briggs dominated the first game 25 -13. In the second game Mitchell rebounded and closed the gap but was unable to close it out and lost 25 – 23. In the final game the Blue jays triumphed to sweep the series with a 25 -15 score.
Mitchell College returns to conference play on Saturday, September 20 at Southern Vermont College where they face Daniel Webster College and Southern Vermont in a NECC conference show down.

It was a dominant week for Mitchell College junior Brooke Whitmarsh (Portsmouth, R.I.), as the junior catcher/3B slashed .440/.500/.640, helping guide the Mariners to a 6-2 record on the week, including a 5-1 mark in conference play.
Michael Ficocelli (North Providence, R.I.) continued his strong freshman season, slashing .467/.467/.533, helping guide the Mitchell College baseball team to a 3-0 record on the week, including a 1-0 mark in conference play.
