MBB's Santiago Lands All-Conference Spot
ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Mitchell College sophomore Domenico Santiago was honored by the New England Collegiate Conference on Monday afternoon as the league announced its yearly awards.
Santiago was one of 15 players who garnered all-conference recognition, earning one of five spots on the third team. Junior forward Mack Bertram-Gregory was one of eight players named to the NECC All-Sportsmanship Team. All awards were determined by a vote of the conference's head coaches.
Santiago, the 2016 NECC Rookie of the Year, enjoyed a strong second season with the Mariners. He started all 26 games and led the conference in rebounding (11.1 rpg) and double-doubles (13) while pacing the team in scoring (14.8 ppg). In NECC action he upped his production to 15.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, and he also ranked among the league leaders in field goal percentage (.585), field goals (103) and blocks (12).
Bertram-Gregory joined the Mariners in January and played in the final 19 games, averaging 11.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. He gave Mitchell another scoring option from the wing and finished second on the team in three-pointers (44).
Mitchell (7-19 overall, 7-8 NECC) qualified for the 2017 NECC Championship as the fifth seed but was eliminated by Wheelock College in the first round.
