LACROSSE DROPS HEARTBREAKER TO BECKER
NEW LONDON, CT--Mitchell College lost a back and forth battle with Becker College Monday afternoon, 8-6. Mitchell falls to 0-10 on the season while Becker picked up their first win to go to 1-8.
This contest marked the final home game for senior goalie Patrick Hutton (Southington HS/Southington, CT) and senior midfielder Mike Roberts (Portland, CT). There was a Senior Day presentation for both before the opening face-off.
The game was easily the most exciting home contest Mitchell played this season. The stands were filled and everybody was loud. They were treated to an early lead on a goal less than two minutes in by freshman attacker John Kearney (Wellesley HS/Wellesley, NY). After two power-play goals by Zach Ledvina (New Bedford HS/New Bedford, MA), Mitchell took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.
Ledvina would score again in the second quarter to keep the halftime score deadlocked at four. Sophomore attacker Alex Walker (Bristol Eastern HS/Bristol, CT) assisted on two of Ledvina's three goals. Midway through the third after falling behind 6-4, Junior midfielder Adam Mavromatis (Livingston HS/Livingston, NJ) would score off a Ledvina pass to draw within one.
Mitchell tied the score at six in the fourth on a sweeping goal by Paul Pettini. After that though, it was all Hawks as Becker would take advantage with less than three minutes scoring twice to secure the win.
Doing the damage for Becker were freshman midfielder Aaron Fill (Delta HS/Ladner, British Columbia), junior midfielder Derek Lepore (LaSalle Academy/Providence, RI), and freshman midfielder Andrew Scampoli (Islip HS/Islip, NY) who each scored two goals.
Mitchell's final game of the season will be at Briarcliffe College Wednesday April 25th at 3:00 PM. Becker's next action will take place this Thursday April 26th home to Maine Maritime Academy at 3:30 PM
